According to the legend, in Tunehi village of Kerla a newborn was found on a stormy night by laborer, Chatu Nair, A cobra with its hood raised, stood guarding over it. Nair brought to child to his employer, a local advocate, Ishwar Ayyar and together they brought up the child and name him Raman.

Even during very early age people knew he was no ordinary child and witnessed miracles around him. As Ishwar Ayyar approached his last days, he requested Raman to grant him darshan of Lord Surya Narayan. When Ayyar experienced the event, he was overwhelmed and said to Raman “You have granted the supreme bliss, hence you are my Nityanand”. Nityanand the young man now, took a yoga, austerities and penance. He travelled to the Himalyas, Varanasi, Colombo, Rameshwaram, Udipi, Manglore….. etc. Wherever he went, people were freed from illness, sorrow and poverty through divine healings. By the time Shree Nityanand reached Kanhangad, his fame had spread far and wide attracting countless devotees.
At Kanhangad and nearby Guruvan, he established a settlement of caves for habitation and meditation. He also planted trees and materialized a stream, later named Papnashini Ganga, which still glows today.

The final stage of his journey brought him to Mumbai where people witnessed healing and miracles. In 1937, He proceeded to the Tansa valley to Akloli and Vajreshwari, where he established schools, rest houses, clinics and renovated the temples and continued his preaching, with emphasis on meditation.

Shortly thereafter he come to nearby Ganeshpuri and settled their near the ancient Shree Bhimeshwar Mahadev Temple. Thousands of visitors from the nearby villages and faraway placed flocked to this new abode, which has gradually developed into a powerful center of pilgrimage as stands today, for people coming in search of spiritual material upliftment

BABA’S MESSAGE

By the large, Baba’s presence, itself was the medium of communication. In his powerful aura, people, would fall silent. Those who had question whould have them answered without asking and doubts would be laid to rest without discussion. People would forget their stress and worries as they soaked in the peace and contentment in presence ofthe great Avadhoot. Noble silence was the message. Miracles and divine experiences have touched numerous devotees who have approached him. Bhagwan Nityanand took Mahasamadhi on August 1961. His Shrine at Ganeshpuri, is a testimony of his divine presence where his countless devotees find solace and experience his kindness even today.
